The course serves is an Introduction to Solid State Physics.
The topics are:
- Review of the basics of Statistical Physics
- Free Electron Gas
- Geometrical description of crystals: direct and reciprocal lattices
- X-ray diffraction
- Band structure: Bloch Theorem, Quasi-free electron model Tight Binding model in 1D.
- Electron dynamics in a crystal. The effective mass. Electrons and holes. Hall effect. Classification of solids based on their electronic structure.
- Cohesive energy in solids.
- Dynamics of Solids (lattice vibrations and phonon concept)
