Scientific objectives (4-5 lines)

The course gives knowledge on open heterogeneous systems (gas-liquid-solid) where take place chemical reactions and mass and energy transfers. The Gas-Liquid, Gas-Solid and Liquid-solid interfaces are represented by the Linear Driving Force. Several examples are given in different field as Catalytic systems, Greenhouse climate, Ice formation, the emperor penguin...

Skills to be acquired (4-5 lines)

1) Calculation of the equilibrium at the Gas-Liquid, Gas-Solid and Liquid-Solid interfaces.

2) Representation of mass and energy transfer at these interfaces and calculation of mass and energy transfer coefficients.

3) Establishment of dynamic models of spatially uniform heterogeneous systems.

4) Solving ordinary differential equations (ODE) on MATLAB or Python.

 

Scientific content (4-5 lines)

Introduction of the dynamics of heterogeneous systems (uniform in space). Introduction of gas-liquid, gas-solid and liquid-solid interfaces. Introduction of the linear driving force (LDF) and the mass and energy transfer coefficients. Calculation of these coefficients. Establishment of dynamic mass and energy balances. Solving the associated EDOs on MATLAB or Python.
