In this semester’s C-level course students will reflect on the many forms activism may take. Spoken words, gestures, actions, manifestos and opinion pieces will be questioned to stimulate critical consciousness. Each class will engage the students with subject matter on struggles albeit injustices as well as to bring them to address the issues in spoken and written English. They will reflect on which causes to champion when writing, for example, an opinion article, a synthesis, or a critical essay.
As this is a c-level course, alternating in-class and remote sessions, it is conducive to a flipped classroom teaching strategy. When on remote, students will access resources about activism that will allow them to participate actively in on site classes. Classroom time will therefore be dedicated to delving deeper into causes with a focus on work in small-group speaking activities and writing exercises.
